Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Bookneko.
Yes! Bookneko is free to use. The optional Bookneko Creative and Premium plans add extras, but core tracking, social features, and challenges are always free.
Yes, and it's free. Bookneko imports Goodreads, StoryGraph and Babelio exports (.csv) and Bookmory's Excel export (.xlsx). From your profile, open Settings › Import / Export › Import a library, choose your file, check the preview and confirm. The import runs in the background, so you can keep browsing while a progress bubble keeps count — a large library can take a while.
Your reading status (read, reading, want to read, and did-not-finish where your app records it), your ratings — half stars included — your reviews and the dates you finished your books, whenever your app's export contains them. StoryGraph and Bookmory also bring your tags, and Bookmory brings every reading log, re-reads included. For Goodreads, StoryGraph and Babelio, you choose whether your “Want to Read” books go to your library or your wishlist. Importing posts nothing to your friends' feed, but your imported books do count toward your badges, and toward a goal or challenge when you finished them within its dates.
They're still added. A book we can't match to our catalogue goes on your shelf as it is, with your status, rating and history, and we keep looking for its catalogue edition on our own. A line with no author is completed by our team: your library shows “Our team is adding N books”, and you can pick the right book yourself in the meantime.
Yes. Books already in your library are skipped, so importing a newer export only adds what's new. To take your books with you, Export my library (in Settings › Import / Export) downloads a .csv of your whole library — your reading notes and reviews aren't included; exporting is part of Bookneko Creative.
Bookneko is available on Android via the Play Store and on iOS via the App Store. It also works great in any mobile browser.
Your profile and activity are visible to other Bookneko members by default, and never published to the open web unless you turn on link sharing. You choose your audience in Settings — public, friends only, or fully private.
Nooks are reading groups where you and your friends can chat, share recommendations, and read together — your own little book club. Keep one private, or make it public for others to discover.
Challenges are themed reading goals you join as a community. Complete the criteria — like reading 5 books in a genre — to earn a badge.
Absolutely. Bookneko is fully bilingual — switch between English and French at any time in Settings or from the top navigation.
Search by title, author, or ISBN — or scan the barcode on any book with your camera. Bookneko searches multiple databases to find the right edition.
Sharing works the same for every Nook: the share button is always there, and you can always send the link or a share image to whoever you'd like to invite. What changes is where a POST about the Nook shows up. Post about a Public Nook and it goes to the main feed, where anyone can see it — its link also opens for visitors without a Bookneko account. Post about a Friends only or Private Nook and it goes to that Nook's own wall instead, following the same rule as every other post made inside a Nook: only members see it. Private Nooks stay invite-only, so someone following the link still has to be invited to get in.
